A new York priest and defender of LGBTQ John Duffell was suspended after he was found guilty in a series of sexual misconduct.
75-year-old Duffell was the pastor of the Church of the Blessed Sacrament on the Upper West side. He announced his retirement last Sunday.
«Many years ago I was accused of sexual abuses from adults that I denied because it wasn’t true — wrote Duffell. — These documents were requested in the court of the Archdiocesan district attorney of Manhattan.»
Duffell in an interview with Daily News said that the charge was «nothing more» as a breach of celibacy, adding that the investigation district Prosecutor’s office opened recently.
Cardinal Timothy Dolan in an address to the congregation confirmed that Duffell «abused his position to violate a vow of celibacy».
A source close to the priest, told CNA that the charge was related to sexual misconduct for several years.

Reverend Duffell was ordained in 1969 by cardinal Terrence Cooke. He served mainly in parishes in Manhattan and Yonkers.
The priest developed a close relationship with singer Lady Gaga, who in 2016 has placed their joint photo in Instagram with gratitude for the beautiful sermon. A year later, Duffell together with its LGBT Fund Gaga Born This Way Foundation held a dance party to raise funds in the Church hall.
In recent years Daffalla criticized the religious community for support LGBTIQ. He began each of his sermons, welcoming «all without distinction, regardless of race or sexuality».
