The easyJet flight was twice returned to the departure airport because of drunken passengers

Flight easyJet from Manchester (UK) to Alicante, in Spain, was forced twice to return to the takeoff place because of the behaviour of drunken passengers.

Thursday’s incidents involved two separate groups of passengers, the statement said easyJet, which connects incidents with alcohol.

«We know that some passengers drinking their own alcohol on Board and before the flight in the terminal,» said the airline.

Flight EZY1919 eventually landed in Spain for more than 3.5 hours later than the scheduled time.

The airline said its staff is trained to act quickly to ensure safety.

«Although such incidents are rare, we take them very seriously and do not tolerate abusive or threatening behaviour on Board, — said the representatives of easyJet. — The safety and wellbeing of our customers and crew is our top priority.»

The UK government is considering changing the rules that currently allow passengers to drink «around the clock», after a surge in cases of drunkenness.

In February, the Briton who tried to open a plane door during the flight, was sentenced to two years in prison.

26-year-old Chloe Haines was flying from London Stansted airport to Dalaman in Turkey in June last year, when members of the crew and fellow travelers had to stop her to open the door. Before the incident, Haynes had consumed alcohol and an unknown drug.

The airline Jet2 put her account in the amount of more than 85,000 pounds ($110 thousand) after her «disastrous behavior» resulted in a deviation from the flight route.
