Neat three-story Museum Isabella Stewart Gardner embodies the woman who for three decades has amassed a large collection, consisting of more than two thousand exhibits, which includes paintings, sculptures, drawings, manuscripts, photographs, letters and other artifacts from around the world. The story begins when Isabella lost her first and only child, who died of pneumonia. Soon after, she found that she could no longer have children. Exhausted by the terrible news that Isabella felt the devastation. Two years she spent in the solitude of his room, refusing to interact with the outside world. In the end, the husband of Isabella decided that I needed to change something. He took his wife to a trip to Europe. A change of environment and new experiences rekindled love of Isabella to life.

The woman traveled halfway around the world, visiting Europe, the middle East and Asia. Travel she found her new goal: to bring unusual and beautiful items that would remind her about what he saw. After valuable gifts filled several warehouses in Boston, Isabella decided to build a separate building to house his entire collection, which she opened to the public in 1903.

Even the Museum building looks as though Isabella brought him back from travel. It is built in the style of a Venetian Palace of XV century and the inspiration for it was the real-life Palazzo Barbaro, where one stayed with Isabella. Inside the Museum consisting of three floors, galleries hidden beautiful gardenfilled with life in all seasons.

Museum of Isabella Gardner is known not only for an extensive collection, but also a unique atmosphere. Most of the art objects do not have side plates with information, and in combination with subdued lighting that creates the effect of attending a private house, and not just an ordinary Museum. Feel like a guest in this great Palace, enjoying the hundreds of beautiful things, among them such masterpieces as «the rape of Europa» by Titian and «the Altar of the family Column» of Raphael.

Isabella Gardner bequeathed to the congregation after her death remained unchanged, however, in connection with the contributions of individuals, to the beginning of the XXI century there is a need to build a second Museum building. To implement this project by the Italian architect Renzo Piano.

Museum of Isabella Stewart Gardner is located in Boston, Massachusetts, at the address 25 Evans Way. Entrance tickets will cost you $15 (regular), $12 (seniors 65 years and older), $5 (students). The Museum is open daily from 11 am to 5 PM, closed on Tuesdays.
