Huge origami sculpture was chosen by the Chicago arboretum

The Japanese art of origami is generally associated with miniature paper replicas of much larger objects, such as a variety of animals. However, a new exhibition at the arboretum, Morton Arboretum in Chicago breaks all the stereotypes. Art project «Origami in the garden» was opened in the Lisle park last weekend, and it can be seen until 22 October.

The authors of the huge stainless steel sculptures are artists from Santa Fe, Kevin and Jennifer Box. The creation of the exhibition was inspired by paper work of origami famous artists. The project «Origami in the garden» includes 40 sculptures, which are assembled in 25 different locations throughout the arboretum. One of the most impressive exhibits in this exhibition is the sculpture «Master of the World» tower, which consists of 1 thousand origami cranes, which reaches 24 feet (7.3 meters) tall and weighs more than 10,000 pounds (4.5 tons).

In the arboretum plans to launch a summer programme of events, during which visitors can learn more about the Japanese roots of the exhibition, participate in workshops on bonsai and origami and generally have a great time (more details on the arboretum website).
