The Governor of new York called the residents of Puerto Rico family and went to their aid

The Governor of the state of new York Andrew Cuomo and Congresswoman Nydia Velasquez, who is originally from Puerto Rico, went on a flooded island in the Caribbean sea, which came under direct hit of hurricane Maria.

«This is personal for me,’ said Velasquez at a press conference before the officials boarded the plane. – I haven’t had the opportunity to talk with the family.»

As it became known, on Thursday the Governor of Puerto Rico Ricardo Rossello appealed to Cuomo. He told the official about the shortage of goods and asked for assistance in the restoration of electricity on the island.

«Governor Rossello not supposed to ask,’ said Cuomo at a press conference. – New York and Puerto Rico – one family, and family no need to ask for help».

Together with Cuomo on the island went engineers, planners, technical consultants and translators from the New York Power Authority. They will help to restore the electricity supply to the residents of the island.

In addition, Cuomo sent as humanitarian aid around 36 000 bottles of water, 10 000 ready meals, canned 3000, 1400 beds, blankets and pillows, and 500 lights.

By order of the Governor of the new York national guard is in standby mode, so that, if necessary, to go to help in the restoration of the island.
