Congress submitted the draft resolution on the recognition of the Holodomor in Ukraine of 1932-1933 genocide

Today, senators from different parties, the co-chairs «of the Ukrainian Caucus» of Congress, sander Levin, Marcy Kaptur, Brian Fitzpatrick and Andy Harris officially presented a draft resolution recognizing the Holodomor in Ukraine of 1932-1933, the Ukrainian genocide — the intentional act of the Stalinist government.

The document was presented on the occasion of the 85th anniversary of the tragic events. The resolution expressed respect for those who died from starvation of 7-10 million Ukrainians, and also expressed support for the efforts of the government in its intention to achieve equity in the recognition of the Holodomor as genocide. The resolution condemns «systematic violations of human rights, including the freedom to self-determination and freedom of speech of the Ukrainian people by the Soviet government.»

Praised the congressmen Ukraine and measures taken by the government in the framework of the principles of democracy and respect for human rights. This will help Ukraine reveal its potential as «an important strategic partner of the United States,» the resolution States.
