Yesterday morning, 1 November, former US presidential Advisor for national security, Michael Flynn, have admitted to making false statements to the FBI and agreed to cooperate with the investigation in the investigation of intervention of Russia in election 2016.
President Donald trump could not remain aloof from the charges of his most senior associates. He commented on this event traditionally – on his page on Twitter:
«I had to fire General Flynn, because he lied to the Vice-President and the FBI. He pleaded guilty at the lie. It’s a shame, because his actions during the transition period were legitimate. There was nothing to hide!»
Trump has repeatedly denied that members of his staff had any understanding of the Russian representatives. Speaking to reporters after the recognition of the former adviser, he said, «Everything that was said (during the hearing – approx. ed.) — this is not collusion, no conspiracy, no collusion, so we are very happy.»
As it became known, in the indictment against Flynn was told that he was instructed to establish contact with Russian officials. But after only 23 days on as adviser, he resigned, admitting that he misled the Vice President about his phone talks with Russian Ambassador to the USA Sergey Kislyak.
According to reports the BBC, Barack Obama advised his successor not to hire the former General, but trump still decided to appoint Flynn on one of the highest positions in the country.
