Russia expels American diplomats and closes Consulate in Saint-Petersburg

In Russia closed the St. Petersburg United States Consulate, Reuters reports with reference to the Minister of foreign Affairs of Russia Sergey Lavrov.

Obviously, this was the response of the Russian side on the expulsion of Russian diplomats from the United States because of the scandal provoked by the assassination of former employee GRU of the General staff of Russia Sergei Skripal in London.

It is known that the considered options of closing consulates in Yekaterinburg and Vladivostok. But the St. Petersburg Consulate from the point of view of status is more important for US, — consider in the Ministry of foreign Affairs.

This diplomatic scandal exacerbated the situation of non-issuance of U.S. visas of Russian national team on wrestling which is supposed to be in the world Cup.
