The Senator from Arizona, twice a presidential candidate and war hero, John McCain died in the family circle August 25 — after years of struggle with brain cancer and just four days before his 82 birthday.

Today, August 27, Rick Davis, former Manager of the presidential campaign, the Senator and the official representative of the McCain, read his farewell words at a press conference in the Capitol of the state of Arizona (Phoenix).

Fellow Americans, for the benefit of which I was happy to work for 60 years, and especially, dear arizonans here,

Thank you for giving me the privilege of serving you and for the wonderful life that I was rewarded the military and government service. I’ve tried my best to fulfill it adequately. I’ve made mistakes, but I hope my love for America outweigh them.

I have often said that you are the happiest man on earth. I think so and now, when waiting in the end and cherish every day. They gave the experiences, adventures and friends, which would be enough for ten great lives — and for that I am eternally grateful. Like most, I have some regret, but would not change the day of your life, whether it is good or bad, on the happiest day of someone else.

I owe the happiness of a loving family: can not imagine a more caring wife and children, that someone was proud of as I am proud of. And, of course, I owe it to them to the United States. The struggle for American ideals — freedom, justice, respect for human dignity brings more joy than any fleeting pleasure. Service of something greater does not limit us as individuals, far from diminishing our sense of significance, but only expands the boundaries.

«My fellow Americans» — these words mean more to me than anything else. I lived and died proud of the fact that American. We — the citizens of the best of world States, a nation born of ideals, not of blood or of land. Our struggle for these ideals, progress is a real gift for us and for humanity. We saved more people from tyranny and poverty than anyone before receiving a huge wealth and power.

We humiliate its greatness, taking for patriotism primitive squabbles and rivalries, leaving behind only resentment, hatred and cruelty in all parts of the world. We humiliate him when hiding behind walls instead of to destroy them when doubt the power of our values instead of allowing them to be the engine of progress and change, which they always were.

We — 5 325 000 wayward, noisy people. We argue and compete, sometimes even insult each other in our fierce debate. But what we agree, there was always more. If you remember this and build relationships on the belief that each of us loves America, we will survive difficult times — and will become even stronger than before. As always.

10 years ago I admitted defeat in the presidential election, and I want to finish the parting with a sincere faith in Americans that felt that night. This belief is still with me.

Do not succumb to the despair of our present difficulties — believe in the future and the greatness of the United States, because there is nothing irreversible there. Americans do not back down. We never give up. We don’t hide from history. We do.

Farewell, dear Americans. God bless you and God bless America.
