Among strangers, a stranger among us | Who is behind the «resistance in the White house»?

«President trump was faced with the challenge who are not familiar to any of the modern American presidents. The point is not how serious special Prosecutor, not that his leadership is terribly divided the country, and not even the fact that his party can concede to the majority [in the Senate] of the opposition that wants his defeat. The problem — which he does not understand is that many of the senior members of the administration are doing everything possible to thwart some of his plans and prevent his worst impulses.

I know for sure — because you are one of these employees.»

With these words begins a controversial column called «I am a member of the resistance in the administration of the tramp» released yesterday, September 5, at the New York Times website. According to the publication, the identity of the author is one of the key figures in the entourage of the incumbent President is known to them, but its not misleading at the request of the employee at risk if released to lose my job.

According to an anonymous member of the administration, the root of the problem — «the immorality of the President,» representing the Republican party, but «not showing loyalty to the order, which the conservatives had been loyal to for many years — freedom of thought, freedom of trade and freedom of the people.»

Behavior trump, he calls «anti-democratic» and a meeting with the head of the United States — full «lip service,» noting that «the impulse [of the President] forces him to take bad designed, not taking into account all the information and often reckless decisions that can not be move.»

What else the author says

  • «We want this administration was successful, and we believe that many of her decisions have made America safer and better. But we also believe in duty to country above all, and that the President continues his behavior a danger to the prosperity of the United States.»
  • «That’s hardly reassuring in such dark times, but the Americans should know: in the room are adults. We understand what is happening, and trying to do the right thing, even when not doing the Donald trump».
  • «In public and during private meetings President trump has a preference for autocrats and dictators like Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong-Eun, not wanting to admit ties with friendly countries like-minded».
  • «Due to the instability of [trump’s] witnessed steel many of us, initially in the office there was talk about enforcing the 25th amendment to begin the impeachment process. But nobody wanted to cause a constitutional crisis. Therefore, we will do our best to guide the administration in the right direction as long as it’s one way or the other will not end».

What they say in the White house — and not only

  • President trump: «This so-called senior officer in the administration really exists, or losers in the New York Times just found another false source? If you COWARDLY anonymous really exist, the Times needs to report his name to the authorities for national security.»

(Before that, the head of the United States published another tweet, writing: «TREASON?»)

  • Press Secretary of the White house Sarah Sanders: «the Author of this column chose to cheat, and not to support the legally elected President of the United States. He gives the first place not a country but himself and his ego. This coward needs to do the right thing and resign».
  • Ari Fleischer, the press Secretary of the White house under George W. Bush: «it is Impossible to estimate with accuracy the importance [column], not knowing what position has the author. Many in the White house consider themselves to be «older» employees.»
  • Senator Bob Corker: «We from the first day suggested that the situation is like that, and obviously they were right. That is why, in my opinion, it is important that the President remained decent people».
  • The official, who asked to remain anonymous: «I am amazed the reaction to the NYT column — people seem shocked by the resistance in the White house. I think many here wanted to write this note. <…> I hope trump knows < … > that us is a set of tens».
  • Melania trump: «If someone is brave enough to press charges, it is his duty to do it in the open, not abandoning his words. <…> I want to say to the author of the column: you don’t protect the country, you endanger her with his cowardly actions.»
  • Congressman Ted Liu: «It [the column] confirms what already said in 3 books and numerous articles: trump is not fit to lead our great country.»

Later, however, Liu added that he agrees with the anonymous critics, who consider his actions cowardly and unable to significantly influence the situation.

According to Chairman of the Freedom Caucus Mark meadows, a number of members of the democratic party contacted him, demanding to investigate the situation.

«Many of us [Republicans and Democrats] agree that anonymous attempt at the employee of the White house to undermine the authority of the legitimately elected President – a sign of cowardice and will not benefit the American taxpayer,» said meadows in an interview with Politico.

Why column is anonymous important?

The NYT has the habit of publishing stories from anonymous authors. Times publishing makes such an exception, then obviously trusts the source and thinks it is quite reliable.

Who fits the definition of «senior administration officials»?

The wording is sufficiently broad and can include just about anyone — senior officials in the Office of the President, members of the national security Council, heads of Departments or their deputies.

Okay. Who is best suited under that definition?

Soon after the appearance of columns CNN announced some of the most common versions. Understand who is who, and whether they had reason to write a scandalous article.

  • Kellyann Conway is a political strategist and Advisor to the President

Reasons: She learned to understand public opinion and to survive in the political arena long before he became one of the advisers to the President of the trump. Mnogohodovochki — it is part of Conway.

The facts: By the way, Kelliann husband, George, is a staunch opponent of the rhetoric of the current President. If he could somehow affect the wife? Unlikely, but detail, it is interesting.

  • Don Boston — Advisor to the President

Reason: Not planning to stay permanently in the White house and will leave the position this fall, and an open letter to the American people — not the worst finale.

The facts: trump and Boston is not the first time disagree: the latter refused to fire Robert Mueller at the request of the President, and even spent more than 30 hours, answering questions of a special Prosecutor to intervene in 2016 election.

  • Dan Coates – Director of National intelligence

The facts: Another member of the administration, do not hesitate to argue with the leader of the United States. He has been critical of trump’s distrust to the American secret services and the decision to meet with President Putin. Learning about the plans to invite the Russian leader to a summit in America, Coates noted that «it’s overkill» — soon, however, apologizing for his «clumsy» words.

  • John Kelly — head of the presidential office

Reasons: the head of the presidential office appeared at the hearing before the advent speakers. In his book «Fear,» Bob Woodward quotes Kelly, in which he calls trump «an idiot,» «screwed-up», and argues that it is «impossible to convince of anything». The head unit was in a tense relationship with the President even before the release of «Fear», and now if the rumors about the imminent dismissal of Kelly is correct — the ex-Minister of internal security and did nothing to lose.

«It’s a madhouse in there. I don’t even know how much we’re all here. The worst job of my life» — quote John Kelly from the book «Fear».

  • Jeff sessions attorney General

Reason: once this option might seem unlikely, but not now. Trump has repeatedly tried to force the attorney General to act in their political interests, and expressed dissatisfaction with his decisions.

The facts: besides, the flames were able to add «Fear» Woodward: according to the book, the President and Roman sessions was called «insane» and «stupid southerner».

However, the Prosecutor included into the five of the main conservative countries: this image is not too fit with the column in the New York Times.

  • Kirsten Nielsen — head of the Department of homeland security

Reason: One of the closest allies of John Kelly, also not in the best relationship with trump. After the President criticized it because of the number of illegal migrants in the country, Nielsen, according to unconfirmed reports, was going to resign — but at the last moment changed his mind.

  • James Mattis — the Minister of defence

Reason: still the Minister of defence seemed to be one of the most reliable supporters of the tramp, however, things are not so simple. First, Mattis is known for his support of Kelly and Rex Tillerson (who left the White house under rather unpleasant circumstances). Secondly, according to the controversial Woodward’s book behind closed doors he is one of the most severe critics of the incumbent President. Thirdly, the trump, is rumored to be seriously thinking about firing him — and nothing prevents the former military to leave, slamming the door. (Another thing is that such decision problems is absolutely not his style.)

  • Mike Pence — Vice-President of the United States

Reason: In the habits of Vice President to keep a perfectly neutral position in front of the camera — and this could be the perfect cover, if he chooses to write such a column. Besides, Pens are ambitious and, quite likely, have seriously thought about his own presidency.

The facts: on the other hand, why not just wait until 2020 — from administration staff at a Penny less reason to rush.

Official representatives of the Vice-President categorically deny that penny — the author of the column. In the press-service emphasize that Vice «always signs his statement,» being «above that sort of amateurish gestures.»

Another reason why the Pens got a list of the main suspects — a favorite word of Vice lodestar (guiding star), used in the column. However, many find this argument questionable.

  • Nikki Haley — U.S. Ambassador to the UN

Causes: Although Hayley does not have the habit to openly criticize the current head of the United States, she has repeatedly voiced his opinion regarding the relations between the US and Russia at odds with the position of President.

Facts: At the time, as most potential authors of the column have nothing to lose, Hailey, on the contrary, ambitious. Can the word «resistance in the White house» to play into the hands of someone who already occupies the last place in the world political arena? Possible.

Although, honestly, Hayley is not so much time and reason to write columns about sabotage in the White house.

  • Jared Kushner and Ivanka trump — the daughter-in-law and advisers of the President.

By the way, on occasion even invented a special name — Jovanka!

Reason: Ivanka has repeatedly said that he plans to do everything possible to be the father of her heard. What is the probability that «everything» includes an open letter in the NYT? Honestly — a tiny, almost mythical. But let’s not dismiss the unlikely options.

  • Melania trump first lady of the United States

The facts: This is the way of unlikely. With the same success it would write to the Baron, but turn’d out melodramatic.

However, there are two obvious options, which CNN didn’t mention: the press Secretary Sarah Sanders still remained in the shadow, and… himself, Donald trump. In the end, the only thing was obtained by column — almost total condemnation of the civil servant, who spoke against US President.

One of the few exceptions — Senator Elizabeth Warren, noting that «if senior members of the administration believe the President is unable to perform their job, they should lead in the 25th amendment».
