Former adviser to trump, was sentenced to 14 days in prison

A former adviser to trump George Papadopoulos was sentenced to 14 days in prison for making false statements to the FBI.

Initially the Prosecutor demanded to appoint a measure of restraint in the form of 6 months of imprisonment, but lawyers managed to reduce the period to two weeks. The sentence was handed down by a Federal court in Washington on Friday, September 8. In addition, Papadopoulos was fined $9500 and was sentenced to 200 hours of community service and one year probation.

Former adviser to trump, said that he regretted his actions. In his address to the court he said he made a «terrible mistake» and wants to make amends.

George Papadopoulos was the first who agreed to testify and pleaded guilty during the investigation Robert Mueller on the case of Russia’s intervention in the American elections in 2016.

The Prosecutor claims that the false testimony Papadopoulos during his interview with Federal investigators in January 2017, has gravely impeded the investigation. Because of this, the FBI failed to arrest the Professor of the London — presumably, the Russian agent before he finally left the United States in February 2017.
