Ukraine prisoner in Russia Sentsov was nominated for the Nobel prize

Today, September 18, deputies of Ukraine adopted the decision to nominate the candidacy of a political prisoner Oleg Sentsov for the Nobel peace prize. The initiative was supported by 245 members of the Parliament of the 348 attendees.

According to the official statement of the Ukrainian authorities, heroism, courage and willingness. to sacrifice his life for the freedom of others are the basis for the nomination of an activist on this internationally renowned and respected award.

Now the text of the appeal should be sent to the Norwegian Nobel Committee, which will consider the candidacy of Sentsov.

Verkhovna Rada Commissioner on human rights Lyudmila Denisova supported the decision of the deputies.

«Oleg is really worthy of it. For his Patriotic stance he is today suffering in the prisons of the occupier. He is a real fighter for basic rights and freedoms of the person», — noted the Ombudsman on his page in Facebook.

Oleg Sentsov, a native of Simferopol, was arrested by Russian authorities in the spring of 2014 after the annexation of Crimea. In 2015, he was sentenced to 20 years in a strict regime colony for organizing terrorist attacks on the Peninsula. In may 2018 Ukrainian on hunger strike, urging the whole world to influence Russia in the release of over 150 political prisoners in the Russian prisons.
