The US government will not allow the mayor of new York city to create centers of controlled drugs

The Ministry of justice warned the current head of new York that the establishment of specialized centers for the use of drugs violates Federal laws. According to representatives of this structure, such a practice is contrary to national measures to combat the opioid crisis.

In may of this year bill De Blasio announced plans to establish four Centres for the prevention of overdose. They are places where drug addicts can safely take illegal drugs, while under the supervision of doctors. Similar establishments operate in Canada and Europe. De Blasio says that OPC (Overdose Prevention Centers) has demonstrated its effectiveness in these countries and will help to avoid many deaths.

However, the representatives of the Ministry of justice believe otherwise. They are going to prevent attempts to create such institutions. According to them, the U.S. government has long engaged in the solution of the problem of opioid crisis and OPC in no way able to fit into the state strategy.

«The agents and prosecutors of the Ministry of justice will not stand idly by while some want to implement erroneous, dangerous and destructive initiatives,» said HART Malliotakis, political opponent bill De Blasio.

In turn, the mayor of new York is not going to just give up. He still says that in the future will create 4 center OPC. These places will be located in Brooklyn, the Bronx and Manhattan. In the near future the municipality will meet with Federal authorities and will discuss possible points of contact for this project.

«Our figures for 2017 indicate that the strategy of new York to combat opioid overdose helps to slow the epidemic. It is our moral obligation to get people involved in the case, which has proved its effectiveness, not criminalize their desire to get better, barring a universally accepted treatment methods. We strive to use all available means to save lives,» said Marci Miranda, the representative of the municipality.
