For the first time in 20 years the White house has refused to hold a dinner in honor of Ramadan

For the first time in more than two decades, the White house did not carry out the ceremonial Iftar dinner marking the end of the Muslim Holy month of Ramadan.

The tradition of Iftar dinner was laid by former US President bill Clinton in 1996. The event took place on Eid al-Fitr (day of breaking the fast) every year, it has invited leading representatives of the Muslim community of the country. George W. Bush and Barack Obama followed the tradition.

Last year, during the election campaign Donald trump Agency ABC News has said he is open to continue the tradition of holding Iftar dinner, if he is elected President. What has changed since then in the opinions of the head of state is not known.

But not only the President and the White house refused dinner. This year during Ramadan, was held the traditional dinner in the State Department.

Neither Donald trump nor the Secretary of state Rex Tillerson the failure of the dinner has not commented.

However, on Saturday, the President’s wife officially congratulated all Muslims of the country with the end of Ramadan.

«On behalf of the American people with Melania we extend our warm congratulations to the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Fitr», — reads the statement of the President. «During this holiday we are reminded of the importance of mercy, compassion and goodwill. Muslims all over the world, the United States reiterates its commitment to respect these values.»
