Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez easily surpassed its competitors and became the youngest woman in Congress

A year ago Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez worked in a bar, to help the family. And yesterday (November 6), 29-year-old resident of the Bronx became the youngest woman in history to have ever been elected to Congress.

The midterms Ocasio-Cortez received the support of 77.95% of voters.

«All our actions – no matter how small or how large – are powerful, giving the result and capable of lasting change, said Ocasio-Cortez in his victory speech on how she managed to achieve such heights. Words cannot Express my gratitude.»

Last month Ocasio-Cortez was 29 years old, so she broke the record for Elise Stefanik, member of the house of representatives in the 21st district of new York, who was 30 when she came into his office.

«I’m so grateful to everyone who contributed… Never forget about the hard work that it took for us to be here,» wrote the newly elected Congresswoman on Twitter.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was born in new York in a family of Puerto Ricans. As a child she moved from one end of the Bronx to another, therefore clearly understand the difference in inequality in different neighborhoods of the Big Apple.

In 2011, the Congresswoman was a graduate of Boston University, where he studied Economics and international relations. After that, she had to work as a waitress and bartender, to help the family make ends meet. While Ocasio-Cortez did not leave their political ambitions, working in campaign for Bernie Sanders during the primaries in 2016.

26 June 2018 the rising star won the 14-m election district of new York in the primaries of the Democratic party, becoming a sensational figure.

In his election program Ocasio-Cortez spoke about the elimination of ICE, free education, universal Medicare, gun control, closing private prisons, etc.
