Virginia recognized the Holodomor as genocide of the Ukrainian people

Official document recognizes the Holodomor in Ukraine as genocide of Ukrainians and honors the memory of the victims of the terrible tragedy that claimed millions of lives.

Virginia has become the 18th in the US, where the Holodomor in Ukraine of 1932-1933 is recognized as genocide of the Ukrainian people. Previously did in Washington, Wisconsin, Illinois, Kansas, Massachusetts, Missouri, Michigan, new Jersey, new York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Utah, Minnesota and other States.

In October 2018, the U.S. Senate passed a bipartisan resolution that recognizes the Holodomor of 1932-1933 as genocide of the Ukrainian people and condemns the systematic violations of the rights of Ukrainians who have made the Soviet regime. In addition, Illinois has proclaimed 2018 the year of memory of victims of Holodomor as genocide of Ukrainians.

Currently, 24 countries one way or another recognize the Holodomor as genocide of the Ukrainian people at the state level. Among them USA, Canada, Australia, Mexico, Poland, Hungary, Portugal, the Baltic States, Georgia and others. In addition, the Holodomor considered a genocide of Ukrainians in the Vatican and six churches: Catholic, Greek Catholic, Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Kyiv Patriarchate, the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate, the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church of the Constantinople Patriarchate.
