Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is not going to be able to rent an apartment in Washington to the oath

The youngest Congresswoman in US history, 29-year-old Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, could not afford to rent an apartment in Washington (D. C.) before it in January to take the oath.

A year ago, Ocasio-Cortez can be found in Flats Fix, small tacerii near Union Square where she worked as a bartender. But on 6 November, Alexandria was elected a member of the house of representatives, becoming the youngest woman elected to Congress. However, in spite of a new high office, the Democrat admits that still can’t afford to rent an apartment in Washington.

Last year I was bartending, and I bought my first couch two weeks ago — shortly after I got health insurance 😬

So don’t worry, growth doesn’t happen in a straight line! We’re all closer than we believe. https://t.co/G6ZEIgVoR8

«I’ll be 3 months without pay before I become a member of Congress. So how do I get an apartment? It’s the little things of life, she said in an interview with the New York Times. — I set aside something for a rainy day and I hope it will help to hold me until January».

Recall that the average rent in the capital of the United States, according to real estate website Zillow, is $2 700.

After the publication of the article in the Times Ocasio-Cortez wrote on Twitter that «the electoral system is not even designed (and not prepared) to ensure that working people could rule,» adding that for her no need to worry, because her team is working on this issue.

There are many little ways in which our electoral system isn’t even designed (nor prepared) for working-class people to lead.

This is one of them (don’t worry btw — we’re working it out!)

«Last year I was a bartender, and 2 weeks ago bought my first sofa shortly after obtained her medical insurance — she wrote on Twitter. — So don’t worry, the growth is never uniform! But we’re getting closer than you think».

At the time, Ocasio-Cortez was involved in the presidential campaign of Bernie Sanders, and before that worked for Senator Ted Kennedy (now deceased). In 2008, the girl’s father died of cancer when he was only 48 years old. To help his family pay the debt for the apartment in the Bronx, she worked in several restaurants, sometimes 18 hours a day.

Now Alexandria takes off with her boyfriend 2-room apartment in the center Parkchester (Bronx).

Housing affordability was the main message Ocasio-Cortez in the election campaign. According to the young politician, the experience of living among ordinary workers gives her the right to consider themselves the most appropriate representative of the district, where the average price of apartments increased by 80%.

«Many members of Congress were born in wealth or increased it, — said Ocasio-Cortez Bon Appetit. — How can you legislate a better life for workers, if you have never been a simple laborer? Trying to live with anxiety that you don’t have health insurance for three years when your tooth starts to hurt».

Rising star of politics (as it was called in the media) stressed that she had experienced.
