«The United States will lose thousands of lives, hundreds of billions a year and the whole of the economy», — the report of the NCA

The US government has published a report on the long-term prospects of climate change. According to the report, global warming is real, tangible and dangerous. In the U.S. warming could lead to losses of hundreds of billions of dollars a year, the disappearance of entire sectors of the economy, internal migration and, finally, the deaths of thousands of people.

The report was prepared within the Research programme of the global change efforts of 13 Federal agencies. The document worked more than a thousand people, including 300 eminent scientists. They came to the conclusion that «the average global temperature is rising much higher and faster than ever in the modern history of civilization, and the warming trend can only be explained by human activity». Without a reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, temperatures by the end of the century could rise by 5 degrees Celsius. And then the «annual losses in some sectors of the economy will reach hundreds of billions of dollars, exceeding the GDP of many States in the United States.»

In the first place due to floods and drought the greatest losses in agriculture, the cultivation of many crops will become unprofitable, loss, waiting and fishing, due to the instability of the weather will increase the number of natural disasters, including the devastating infrastructure. Intensify forest fires. Most notably warming may affect South-Eastern and Central regions of the United States, which can become dry. Hawaii and the States on the Caribbean sea are threatened by flooding.

Climate change may cause a significant increase of cases of asthma and various infectious diseases, including those transmitted by parasites. The authors of the report, these diseases will lead to thousands of additional deaths per year.

The report was published on the eve of two major scientific meetings on climate change, which will be held in the coming weeks. The global scientific community is still not consolidated in the opinion that global warming is real, that it long-term, is associated with the person and that emissions of greenhouse gases. There are those who believe that we live in the era of the cold snap, there are those who believe that we are witnessing an era of unstable climate when warming and cooling follow each other. Some proponents of global warming do not believe man and his economic activity is the cause.

Climate change is real & it’s happening now. But by taking urgent #ClimateAction we will create jobs, improve our health & save money.

Report prepared under the auspices of the U.S. Government, of course, will add to the credibility of the theory of global warming on future scientific disputes, including the UN. Politicians, meanwhile, already give their assessment of the report. Unfortunately, in the United States the climate issue in addition to scientific fundamentals acquired political overtones.

Donald trump has repeatedly stated his skepticism against the theory of global warming. Such an assessment he again voiced just the day before, on November 22, noting that it was the coldest thanksgiving Day. The Democrats consistently support the climate agenda and require government action to prevent damage from warming. The mayor of new York bill De Blasio has commented on today’s report and accused trump of carelessness.

Advocated the adoption of urgent measures and Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez: «People will die if we don’t start doing something about climate change ASAP.» It also complements the forecast of the scientists own assumption that, like all shocks, climate change will increase social inequality and will hit hardest on the poorest.
