New bill on health care proposed by the Republicans last Monday, has caused the sharp criticism from experts.
After analyzing so-called Better Care Reconciliation Act, the American medical Association came to the conclusion that it denies the protection of the most vulnerable citizens.
«The bill on many levels violates the rule «do no harm» (Primum non nocere), which for a long time should the medical community», — wrote the head of the largest U.S. group of doctors in an open letter to leaders of the Senate.
James Madara added that the bill would make health insurance less affordable for Americans with low and middle income levels.
The doctors were joined by a group of three dozen economists, which includes 6 Nobel prize laureates.
In a letter to the chief leader of the Senate Mitch McConnell and the minority leader Charles Schumer economists wrote that «in accordance with the bill insurance will be able to purchase only the healthy and wealthy people».
«The reform will complicate life for all but the relatively wealthy people, reducing the population’s access to health insurance is a giant step in the wrong direction», — concluded the economist. They criticized the bill because it essentially reduces taxes for high earners, by cutting subsidies for health care.
We will remind that according to forecasts of the congressional Budget office, 10 years after the introduction of health reforms the uninsured will have about 23 million Americans.
The Senate should make the final decision regarding the Better Care Reconciliation Act this week.
