The US government is waiting for a partial shutdown

Today, December 21, representatives of democratic forces and Republicans failed to reach a compromise in the adoption of the budget for next year, so Congress will temporarily cease operation at 00:00. The Senate will return to the discussion on Saturday at 17:00 GMT.

Before the Senate failed to vote for President Donald trump has warned of «very long» government shutdown if lawmakers do not agree to allocate $5.7 billion to build a wall between USA and Mexico, included in the financing.

According to a source close to the White house, trump made a «strategic mistake» by making such a categorical statement. On top of that, this situation already twice occurred in the beginning of this year. In past times the stumbling block was the construction of the wall and immigration policy, «deferred action against children arrivals» (DACA).

By the way, until 2018, the last time the government closed only in 2013, and this was due to Obama reform Obamacare.

Now back to the shutdown. What usually happens after the close of the government? All departments whose activities are considered vital, cease work, and about 400 thousand workers sent on unpaid leave.

Here is a list of departments that are closed during the shutdown:

  • The Department of homeland security;
  • The Ministry of internal Affairs;
  • The Ministry of justice;
  • The Ministry of agriculture;
  • The Department of transportation;
  • Control over quality of foodstuff and medicines;
  • Agency for the protection of the environment;
  • The Department of housing;
  • NASA;
  • The national Park service.
