The new composition of Congress has started its work today. Was elected speaker Nancy Pelosi — she’s the first one in the last half century in the United States was able to return to that chair, leaving him one day in 2011.

Nancy Patricia D Alessandro Pelosi, a Democrat Congresswoman from California, was initially among the most probable applicants for an armchair of the speaker. In Congress it is based on the democratic majority, formed including Democrats of the new wave of young politicians elected in 2018. It is known to be a consistent criticism of the President of trump and counter him in all key areas, especially in matters of migration policy and the construction of the Wall. Confrontation of a situation on the Mexican border has already led to a partial Government shutdown.
As the House of Representatives opens the 116th Congress today in Washington, it will hold the election for the 63rd Speaker of the House.

Among the first measures the Democrats, who today control Congress (235 versus 199 votes) called the partial opening of the Government — a law paving the financing of the eight departments affected by the shutdown (in addition to funding the construction of the Wall). The issue is not resolved, can be blocked by the Senate and the President, but gives the chance that a complete shutdown will not.

Pelosi repeatedly said that Democrats are committed to constructive compromise with Republicans — many of whom are unhappy with the policies of the current occupant of the White house. The newly elected speaker of the house of representatives and the Republican minority leader Kevin McCarthy, both Californians, rose today on stage together. McCarthy immediately identified the parameters of a possible compromise: «We at their best focused not on retribution, but on building a better society. There is one fundamental principle that we will not compromise: the Republicans will always choose personal liberty, not state control». Will do this compromise for the restoration work of the Government, we will know very soon.
