«Most of our votes are pretty clear, but today it was difficult, more detailed, solution – said Ocasio-Cortez. – We did not vote with the party because one of the costs included funding for ICE, and our community has spoken out strongly against funding this.»

Initiated by Democrats, the bill to suspend the shutdown was passed with the support of more than 220 Democrats and several Republicans in the House of representatives. Currently, about 800 thousand Federal employees either went on vacation or working without pay.

But as adopted, the budget bill does not include $5.7 billion for the construction of the border wall, the political experts are skeptical that the proposal will pass the Senate, where majority Republicans.

Ocasio-Cortez and a few elected Democrats have declared their support for the abolition of the ICE. In July the democratic party has drafted a bill to eliminate the Agency and transfer powers to other Federal agencies.

In response to the President’s address to the nation, the young politician was indignant that the government is going to Fund ICE after 7-year-old girl from Guatemala died from exhaustion in the immigration prison.

«The President should do to protect, why are we even Finance [ICE] — commented Ocasio-Cortez. Now we see death. Right now we are seeing violations of human rights».
