USA imposed sanctions against a Russian Bank associated with Venezuela

The office of foreign assets control (OFAC) announced today the introduction of U.S. sanctions against a Russian Bank in which 49,99% owned by the State to the Venezuelan Fund of national development Fonden S. A. and who had a close relationship with PDVSA (Venezuelan state oil company). Other major participants of the Bank — Russia’s Gazprom and VTB.

Today on the OFAC website published an official statement, according to which «Evrofinance Mosnarbank» is included in the SDN list (Specially Designated Nationals and Blocked Persons): «the Russian Bank is trying to circumvent US sanctions against PDVSA of Venezuela. The United States continues to take action against those who support the illegitimate regime of Maduro and contribute to humanitarian crisis in VZ». Evrofinance Mosnarbank as of 1 February, he was ranked 82-th place by assets (64,8 billion roubles) to the Russian banking system (RBC).

The U.S. state Department said today that it would continue the pressure on supporters of Nicolas Maduro including exposing sanctions on companies that cooperate with them:

«The United States sanctioned Evrofinance Mosnarbank, the financial institution involved in facilitating illegal deals that prolong the usurpation of the Maduro government… the growth of isolation Maduro, in a desperate attempt to expand his corrupt network of his allies, including Russia, contribute to the ongoing theft of assets of Venezuela, allowing the members of the illegitimate regime of Maduro to fill their pockets at the expense of the Venezuelan people. We will continue to use the full weight of economic and diplomatic power of the United States to restore Venezuelan democracy. We also urge responsible Nations throughout the world to take action and support the people of Venezuela».

Meanwhile, in Venezuela the fourth day there is no electricity. As BuzzFeedNews reports, 17 people died because of blackouts in hospitals. On the streets lined up a huge queue for food and water. Due to a nationwide blackout partially disturbed water, and the products have been massively spoiled in warehouses. Maduro has accused U.S. agents and their accomplices-traitors in the blackout by sabotage and Subversion. The opposition believes blackout natural result of an epidemic of theft, incompetence and corruption surrounded by Maduro.

Angry residents of the district of Chacao in Caracas on Sunday set up barricades along the main streets and alleys. «The food that we had in the refrigerator, spoiled, businesses are closed, there is no connection, even on a mobile phone,» says Reuters 49-year-old Ana Cerrato. As spoken by many retailers, knowing that their product spoil without refrigerators, handed out free food to people. However, many of those who did not, was robbed — the people carried the goods themselves. So on Monday night one of the supermarkets in South East Caracas were looted on Monday night that sparked a shootout with police and National guard.

Just this night looted dozens of shops and shopping centers in the capital. Police and troops stopped on the street everyone men and placed face down on the pavement, trying to keep order in the city.
