Congress denounced Putin for Nemtsov murder and the occupation of the Crimea

The U.S. Congress on Tuesday adopted several documents on the prosecution of Vladimir Putin for his actions during the tenure of the President of the Russian Federation. The congressmen he is charged with hindering prosecution in the murder of Boris Nemtsov and the crimes committed in the course of the operation of the annexation of Crimea.

A great deal of controversy around the bills was not. Against the Resolution voted for Nemtsov’s only one person — Thomas Massey. Boris Nemtsov, a political opponent of Putin and a critic of its military action against Ukraine was defiantly shot dead outside the Kremlin walls 4 years ago, but it is a crime not investigated, customers and organizers of the murder were not revealed. The congressmen believe that the President obstructed the investigation and thus to shield the killers. The Chairman of the foreign Affairs Committee Eliot Engel said that «this resolution not only urged the administration to impose sanctions against individuals responsible for the murder of Nemtsov, but in General, condemns the systematic attack by the Kremlin on its political opponents».

The House adopted H. Res. 156 — Calling for accountability and justice for the assassination of Boris Nemtsov by a vote of 416-1.

Resolution on Crimea also collected 427 votes in favour and only the voice of Massey was against it. The document prohibits the Federal ministries and departments to recognize in any form the Crimea in Russia or in contact with the local authorities, which de facto imply such recognition.

The House passed H. R. 596 — Crimea Annexation Non-recognition Act by a vote of 427-1.

Congress also passed the draft law, which was proposed by the Raja of Krishnamurti and Chris Stewart, instructs the Director of National intelligence to submit three comprehensive assessments «of the political leadership of the Russian Federation» to provide information about his possible actions against the NATO, the possible threats to the United States and NATO countries in Eastern Europe and potential weaknesses, of which the Russian government may try to benefit.
