Mary Butina was hoping for a quick deportation, but prosecutors want to put her on 18 months

Rossiyanka Maria Butina may remain behind bars for another 1.5 years and then be deported.

The girl was arrested July 16 and accused of conspiring with a view to implementation in the National rifle Association USA (NRA) in favor of the Russian government. Since she is in jail Alexandria (Virginia).

Butina agreed to cooperate with the investigation and in December pleaded guilty. Her lawyer Bruce Marx insists that her deported immediately after sentencing, but perhaps this will not happen.

The U.S. attorney’s office asked the judge to Tanya Chutkan with a request to Butino sentenced to an additional 18 months in prison. The appeal was accompanied by a statement of Robert Anderson, former assistant Director of the counterintelligence Division of the FBI. Anderson gave a full picture of the activities of Butynol in the US, claiming that she worked hard to find Americans who could provide intelligence to the Russian government in the future.

«She focused specifically on the Americans with political influence, and Americans who have access or should have access to the new presidential administration. Her ability to get meaningful access to these influential personalities would be incredibly valuable for the Russian government — claimed Robert Anderson. — Butina collected information about the individuals in the reports that were sent to senior Russian government official. In accordance with the online operation, its reports were not focused on simple biographical details. Rather, it defined the political importance of those people about which it is said».

We will remind, in February Chutkan deferred sentencing at the request of prosecutors. According to them, she helped in the ongoing investigation against the scientist Paul Erickson, with whom she had a relationship.
