Ilhan Omar blamed American sanctions in the social crisis of Venezuela

The Congresswoman is a Democrat from Minnesota has accused the U.S. of causing the crisis in Venezuela:

«Many policies that we implemented and helped to cause havoc in Venezuela, and we kind of set the stage for where we are arriving today… It is a specific insult and the use of sanctions in order to eventually intervene and change the regime, do not help the people of countries like Venezuela, and, of course, does not help and is not in the interests of the United States.»

Ilhan Omar blamed American sanctions in the social crisis of Venezuela

These words were made by Ilhan Omar broadcast of Democracy Now, in his sharp critique of U.S. special envoy in Venezuela Elliott Abrams: «people like Elliott Abrams, the neocons and warmongers, you know, it has long sought a policy that is happening right now — we see not only in Central America but in many parts of the world, what devastation experienced by many countries for decades».

Congresswoman Democrat has invited US to take a pause and review the methods of conducting foreign policy, to overestimate the effectiveness of sanctions, noting that the people they hurt more than dictators.

«I think we have too long used the muscle memory to generate our foreign policy. It is time, said Professor Sachs, to wait and see how important is our policy, what is our ultimate goal, which is successful and which methods we should reject. I remember talking with Madam Secretary of state Albright and talked to her about the success of the sanctions that we are introducing around the world, and how some of them have a devastating impact on the local population, not the government, which we see as our opponents. And she agreed with me that many of the sanctions that we are introducing eventually lead to destruction — and we see this now in Venezuela — and eventually lead to serious problems in this country».
