In Iran burned US flags after the assassination of the Iranian General, and the government promised the States «crushing revenge»

Iranian authorities are threatening the United States with the immediate response — and, perhaps, even war — after the death of influential military commander Qassem Soleimani and one of the most powerful men in the country. The General was killed this Friday during the air attacks of the United States. Attack personally approved by President trump.

General Soleimani was the head of the Iranian military-intelligence operations in the middle East as head of elite division «al-Kuds».

Two missiles fired from a drone MQ9 Reaper, killed the General Soleimani shortly after he got off the plane in Baghdad airport. Along with him was also killed Abu Mahdi al-Mohandis, head of the Shiite militia group kata’ib Hezbollah. According to the Islamic revolutionary guard Corps, all in the airstrike, 10 people were killed.

President trump commented on the incident, stating that General Soleimani «has killed and wounded thousands of Americans,» and «had to be eliminated for a long time». In response, the Amir Khatami, the Iranian defense Minister, threatened the United States «crushing revenge» for the «unjust murder» Soleimani.

Iran’s Supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said that the attack followed «serious revenge against the criminals.» He also announced three days of public mourning.

The drone strike occurred a few days after protesters attacked the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad: Donald trump blamed it on Iran. A few minutes before the air strike, the President has published in his Twitter photo of the US flag without any comment. Today, January 3, at about 12:45, trump published a new tweet.

«Iran has never won the war, but never lost a negotiation!» — wrote the President.

The Minister of foreign Affairs of Iran Javad Zarif called the strike an act of «international terrorism».

62-year-old Soleimani was the commander of «al-Quds» — an elite unit of the Islamic revolutionary guard Corps, which the U.S. government declared a terrorist organization in April of last year. The assassination of General Soleimani, the second most important person in Iran, marks a serious escalation of tensions between the US and Iran.

U.S. Secretary of state Mike Pompeo released a video in which, according to him, is seen as Iraqis dancing in the street, «grateful that General Soleimani is no more.» The Prime Minister of Iraq Adel Abdul Mahdi, in turn, condemned the «murder» of General Soleimani and stated that the air strike is an act of aggression, which will lead to the war in Iraq and the world. He added that the dead were «the main symbols of the victory over ISIS.»

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, long supported by Iran, condemned the «criminal» US aggression. The Minister of foreign Affairs of the UK Dominic Raab called for «all sides to de-escalate,» noting: «Further conflict is not in our interests».

Representatives of Iran and the Middle East argue that killing the General is the escalation of the conflict and the beginning of the war. American politicians are not happy about the incident, considering the decision of the President recklessly.

«Soleimani was the killer responsible for the deaths of thousands of people including hundreds of Americans. But this reckless move will have a detrimental effect on relations with Iran and will only increase the probability of a new death and a new conflict in the middle East. We must do everything possible to avoid another costly war «. — wrote in his Twitter the presidential candidate Elizabeth Warren.

In turn, the speaker of the house Nancy Pelosi said that the administration had carried out air strikes without consulting Congress or authorization for use of military force against Iran — and, therefore, cannot be considered legitimate.
