Iran denies reports that Ukrainian plane was shot down his rocket

8 January 2020 early in the morning Ukrainian plane with 177 passengers was wrecked near the international airport of Imam Khomeini in Tehran. According to PressTV, the Iranian Director of civil aviation denies «illogical rumors» that the airliner was shot down by missiles.

The Minister of civil aviation of Iran Ali Abedzadeh in an interview with Press TV on Thursday, said: «From a scientific point of view it is impossible that a rocket hit a Ukrainian plane».

«The plane caught fire three minutes after take-off, in accordance with what reported by witnesses, and information obtained during the inspection of airplane parts,» said Abedzadeh.

Ali Abedzadeh, Iranian Civil Aviation minister: “The plane was at an attitude of 8,000 feet. No missile can reach that height.”
8,000 feet make 2,440 km.

«The pilot tried to turn the plane at an altitude of 8000 feet (2440 km), but because of the fire the plane crashed and exploded. — he added — we Can say that the aircraft, given the type of crash and the attempts of the pilot to return it to the airport of Imam Khomeini, did not explode in the air. Thus, the assertion that he was hit by a missile, is completely excluded».

Interestingly, while Ali Abedzadeh said on state television: «If we can prove that the cause of the crash was technical, then Boeing shares fall sharply in price.»

Answering the question of whether the cause of the accident, Abedzadeh said: «According to international rules, the responsibility for the investigation lies with the country where the incident occurred. So, it falls to the civil aviation Organization of Iran.»

«But since the plane was Ukrainian, Ukraine is obliged to cooperate with us and have already begun to work. A team of Ukrainian experts has arrived in Tehran and we agreed with them the various aspects of this issue. Iranian and Ukrainian experts held a meeting, so we can determine the cause of the incident in cooperation with the Ukrainian side».
