Democrat Pete Buttidzhich dropped out of the presidential race

Pete Buttidzhich, the youngest presidential candidate, USA, Sunday, March 1, dropped out of the presidential race.

38-year-old Buttidzhich, former mayor of South Bend (Indiana), a veteran of the war in Afghanistan and the first open candidate is gay, had previously won the Caucus (primaries) in Iowa and finished second in new Hampshire, but could not repeat the success in more «diverse» States – such as Nevada and South Carolina. So, on Saturday in South Carolina, a candidate has the support of only 3 percent of African American voters.

The failure of the centrist Democrat from participation in the race can help the former Vice-President Joe Biden, who won a much-needed win on Saturday and now hopes to break away from the liberal leader Bernie Sanders.

«We went into this race to defeat the current President and usher in a new policy, — said Buttidzhich. – Now it’s time to step aside and help unite our party and our country.»

Buttidzhich sought to unite Democrats, independent and moderate Republican voters, claiming that his status of «outsider» in Washington may help to fight Donald trump for the November election.

But he has faced persistent questions about its ability to win the votes of African American voters.

The period of stay of Buttidzhichem mayor of South Bend, which ended on January 1, has attracted attention due to the lack of «diversity» in the local police and the shooting of an African-American resident officer.

Buttidzhich would be the first candidate in US presidents – openly gay. His wife is a teacher Honest Buttidzhich where Pete married in 2018, regularly accompanied him during the election campaign.

Buttidzhich is also a veteran of the US Navy, he often talked about his military service and Christian faith, criticized the uncompromising liberal proposals of Sanders, who, according to him, could alienate moderate democratic voters.
