Republican congressman accuses Harry and Meghan of election meddling and demanded stripping of titles

The Republican Congressman wrote a letter of protest to the British Ambassador to the United States.

The letter, the full text of which he tweeted, claimed that the royal couple's video urging Americans to “reject hate speech, misinformation and online negativity” was a campaign against President Donald Trump.

“These actions constitute a serious violation of the neutrality policy of the British royal family and undue interference by one of our closest allies,” Congressman Jason Smith of Missouri wrote in his letter.

After that, he stated that the couple should be deprived of the right to use titles so as not to associate their views with the royal family.

Prince Harry and Megan Markle are using foreign titles to campaign against President Trump and interfere with our election. Today, I asked the British Government to put a stop to it.

Last month, Meghan and Harry urged Americans to come to the polls in a short video.

“Every four years, we are told the same thing: that these are the most important choices in our life, but it really is,” Megan said.

The former actress of the hit TV series Suits and her son Archie are not only members of the Royal Family, but also citizens of the United States. Now they live with Prince Harry in California.

In their video, the couple never mentioned Trump directly. A spokesman for the Duke and Duchess said the royal couple simply called for «decency and respect» and did not support a single candidate.

Several people noted that Smith himself appears to associate his party leader, President Trump, with «hate speech, disinformation and negativity online.» Some users noticed that Smith spelled Markle's name incorrectly, and also ignored the fact that Megan is a US citizen and has the right to vote.
