Gates, Zuckerberg, Musk: 10 richest people in the USA lost $ 14 billion in a day

America's 10 richest people lost a total of $ 14 billion this Monday after the stock market suffered its worst day in two months.

Billionaires, including Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musk, have suffered losses due to the rise in coronavirus cases and the suspension of negotiations on another fiscal stimulus bill, which caused uncertainty in the market.

The Facebook CEO was hit the hardest, as shares of the social network fell 2.7% on Monday. Zuckerberg, who owns 15% of the company, has lost $ 2.8 billion, but he hardly has anything to worry about: the businessman's remaining fortune is $ 101.8 billion.

Bill Gates, co-founder of Microsoft and the third richest man in the world, lost $ 1.7 billion from various investments that included his 1% stake in Microsoft. Gates also owns shares in Canadian National Railways, John Deere and Republic Services, which are down more than 2%, Forbes reports.

Elon Musk lost $ 66 million after Tesla shares fell 2.5% — despite rebounding the same day. As a result, the entrepreneur's fortune decreased to $ 93 billion.

Among those who suffered losses were also former Microsoft CEO Steve Bolmer ($ 1.7 billion), investor Warren Buffett ($ 1.5 billion), Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison ($ 2.6 billion), Google co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin ($ 2 billion and $ 1.8 billion, respectively), as well as the heiress of the Walmart empire, Alice Walton ($ 635 million).

Despite widespread losses, one of the richest in the world still managed to increase his capital this Monday: Amazon founder Jeff Bezos. After the company's stock rallied, Bezos gained $ 159 million — increasing his fortune to $ 188.8 billion.
