Putin did not congratulate Joe Biden on winning the 2020 elections

Russian President Vladimir Putin refused to congratulate Joe Biden on his victory in the 2020 elections, citing the fact that first he will have to go through a series of «legal procedures.»

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Monday that Russia will recognize Biden as the new president only after confirming the «official results.» He did not elaborate on what he meant.

“We think it's best to wait,” Peskov told reporters.

«President Putin has repeatedly said that he will respect any choice made by the American nation.»

Former Vice Biden defeated President Donald Trump in the race for the presidency on Saturday, winning 20 decisive votes from the Pennsylvania electoral college.

It is known that the personal relationship between Vladimir Putin and Joe Biden is not easy. In an interview with the New Yorker in 2014, the then vice-president stated that he told Putin that he had «no soul.»
