Ocasio-Cortez called aid to Afghan refugees a «moral duty» of the United States

Rep. Alexandria Okasio-Kortes , a Democrat from New York, said on Monday the United States should immediately take in Afghan refugees in the country — amid the withdrawal of US troops and a swift takeover by the Taliban.

She also told US citizens trying to leave Afghanistan, fill out a State Department repatriation assistance form and said her office is «ready» to help voters who need help with evacuation.

«We must spare no time or money in helping refugees leave safely and quickly.» Afghanistan,” Ocasio-Cortez tweeted.

We have a moral obligation to the Afghan people. The U.S. role in this crisis is indisputable. We must waste no time or expense in helping refugees safely & swiftly leave Afghanistan. We must immediately welcome them to the U.S. & provide real support as they rebuild their lives.

The New York congresswoman stressed that the United States has a moral duty to the people of Afghanistan.

“The role of the United States in this crisis is undeniable,” she said.

Calling it “the necessary minimum ”, Ocasio-Cortez added: “The United States has the sole responsibility to provide a safe haven for the Afghans: for all those who suffered losses, sacrificed, suffered and served in the last 20 years of war and occupation.”
