Supporters boo Trump for recommending COVID-19 vaccination

Former President Donald Trump booed at a rally in Alabama on Saturday after he told his supporters they should get vaccinated.

“You know what? I fully believe in your freedoms. Truth. Trump said <…> But I recommend getting vaccinated. I did. The vaccine is working, take it.”

After that, there were dissatisfied exclamations from the crowd, in which there were almost no masked people.

“No, that's fine. Everything is good. You have rights and freedoms,” Trump said, echoing the rhetoric of opponents of mask and vaccination mandates.

“But I happened to get a vaccine. If it doesn't work, you'll be the first to know. Good? I'll call Alabama and say, «hey, you know what?» As long as [the vaccine] works, you certainly have rights that should not be violated.”

COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations are on the rise in the US South due to the highly contagious delta variant of the coronavirus. Cullman, home of the rally, is also seeing an increase in cases, with the city declaring a state of emergency on Thursday.

Alabama has the lowest vaccination rate in the US, with more than 36% of the population now fully vaccinated, according to NBC News.
