The Pentagon has prepared a plan to supply weapons to Ukraine

The U.S. Department of defense in conjunction with the state Department undertook the development of a plan to provide Ukraine anti-tank missiles and other defensive weapons. But the project still must be approved by the White house. According to The Wall Street Journal (WSJ).

According to the us military and diplomats, which refers to the publication, the Pentagon is guided by the goal to support Kiev in the fight against separatists in the East of Ukraine. In turn, the separatists are receiving assistance from the Kremlin – that is the official position of the Ukrainian authorities.

However, even if the plan is truly ready for its implementation may require several months. Though, we should not get ahead of ourselves, because, as stated by the WSJ, and Donald trump are not familiar with the proposal and, especially, not expressed his opinion on the matter.

You may be able to convince the Minister of defence of the USA James Mattis, who supported the idea of supplying arms to Ukraine. Or, for example, Senator of Arizona John McCain, who shared a link to the WSJ article in his Twitter.

«It’s time. The title of the article from the WSJ: «the Pentagon has a plan for arming Ukraine»».

It should be noted that the administration of Barack Obama had already considered a similar issue, but in the end, abandoned the idea of providing weapons and decided to limit the supply to several thousand monocular night vision devices.

This decision could contribute to the opposition of German Chancellor Angela Merkel, who was strongly against guns.

By the way, the EU in the face of Germany and France still stands his ground, fearing that the supply of defensive weapons to Ukraine will escalate the conflict even more.

At the same time, says the WSJ, the us is trying to negotiate with Canada, great Britain, Poland and Lithuania, which can support the plan.

Not to mention that this week Vice-President Mike Pence met with the heads of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, to talk about NATO and the need to confront Russia, which “seeks to redraw the boundaries, to undermine the democratic foundations of sovereign States and to divide the free peoples of Europe.”

But even if the White house approved a Pentagon plan, Ukraine will have to abide by certain conditions on the use of anti-tank missiles. In particular, the Javelin missile can be located only away from the front line.

And in case Ukrainian troops decide to use a gun “properly,” that Washington may refuse “in its support or technical assistance” promised by the Pentagon.

Meanwhile, Moscow claims that the supply of American weapons will only put a spoke in the wheel attempts to negotiate peace in the conflict region.
