According to de Blasio, there will be apartments at affordable prices, as well as commercial premises.

«This building was abandoned in 1983. At that time, the city desperately needs affordable housing, such premises shall not stand idle», — said the mayor. «We will do everything in order to then create 500 affordable apartments.»

The building was constructed from 1915 to 1930-th yy. Mayor de Blasio said that the developer should take into account the historic nature of the site, building facades, but if it will be cheaper to demolish some buildings, it will be done.

According to former new York mayor Michael Bloomberg, plans for reconstruction of the buildings existed before, but the project was shelved in 2012 after the developer was indicted in the bribery.
