During the inspection the inspectors found that the decorative elements on the bridge are in very poor condition: many of them are destroyed or close to that. It repairs and experts will be engaged.
The Department plans to replace 4 of the Globus installed on the top of the bridge, decorative cornices, panel railing and repair of the decorative arch over the bridge, part of which has already started to fall in the water.
Start of work coincides with the temporary closure of the metro line L and will probably result in certain restrictions of traffic. Although the Department assured that he would do everything possible to minimize inconvenience.
Joannin Kidder, Executive Director of the Department of bridges, suggests that the work will be carried out overnight, because the repair will require closures on the upper levels.
«The results of our research, night is the only time when we can block traffic,» says Kidder.
Also during the period of repair works will be closed one lane on the lower level.
Bicycle and pedestrian paths on the South side of the bridge will have to narrow down to 4-5 feet, however, to block them will not.
