Who can apply for affordable housing in Los Angeles: new rules

Los Angeles occupies the 6th place in the ranking of cities with the most expensive rent, and, it seems, is not the limit — only for last month the prices in the city rose 0.7 %, and the year — by as much as 3.8%. According to the national report on the cost of the rental property, currently a 1 bedroom apartment costs the locals an average of $1 950 per month, 2 bedroom — $800 2.

Not everyone is able to pay such a sum, but low-income County residents are eligible for affordable housing.

Who is included in this category? At the end of April, the Department of housing and urban development released new data about the salaries in the County — level average income was set at $64 300.

Everyone who earns up to $50 500 per year (that is, 80 percent or less of the average wage) are considered poor, and therefore, may qualify for a budget property.

These figures are taken from the per person and vary depending on the number of family members.

Thus, the right to housing are families with an income of 57 700 less for two 64 900 for three, 100 for four 72, 77 900 for five and 83 650 for six family members.

More recently, the city introduced additional measures to provide housing for privileged categories of the population. So, since November last year, the developers of many projects are required to provide during construction a certain percentage of housing units for tenants with low incomes.

With the new rules, hope to rent cheap apartments get more people in Los Angeles, but the number of such apartments is still not corresponds to the number of the needy; therefore, the housing problem will be solved not for everyone.
