Complaints from local residents prompted the Chicago policy to abolish the construction of the hotel

In March of this year Chicago real estate company Rebel Hospitality announced their plans to build a new 15-storey hotel in one of Central districts of the City winds. And in this area, namely in River North, from 2008 year, is another project of the company – a boutique hotel, the Dana Hotel & Spa.

The project plans indicated that the construction of a new building at 12-22 W. Erie Street will have to carry a row of three buildings owned by Rebel Hospitality. And then in their place to build a hotel for 178 rooms. On its ground floor a restaurant will open, and the street cafe.

But this idea is not relished most residents of River North. According to Brendan Reilly, a member of the Chicago municipality and the head of this district, he has received numerous complaints from residents of the area who opposed the construction. Some of them even went to the rally.

As Reilly argues, this protest is based. When opened Dana Hotel & Spa, nearby streets Erie Street and Dearborn Street became overloaded with limousines, tour buses, taxis, Uber cars and trolleybuses.

Another reason for the «headache» residents was a noisy night club in the building of the existing hotel. A little earlier on the roof of the Dana Hotel & Spa worked by Vertigo Sky Lounge, but soon the hotel closed it.

In addition, controversial aspects of steel layout and design of the new hotel, the exterior of which involves the use of exposed concrete.

And despite the fact that the residents of River North has repeatedly appealed to the leadership of the Dana Hotel & Spa with complaints about the deterioration of their quality of life, no response, they did not.

“While in the 42nd district are tens of thousands of hotel rooms, we have never received such unprecedented negative reviews about the influence of one of the hotels on the surrounding areas. Indeed, for the first time,” said Reilly.

The complaint prompted the Alderman to contact Rebel Hospitality with a call to establish your relationship with your neighbors and also give a period of one year to resolve issues with traffic and noise. In addition, he advised companies to think of the construction of such buildings for buildings which do not require the rezoning of the area.

Not surprisingly, the Rebel Hospitality is not satisfied with that decision’reilly. One of the representatives of the company, gene Carnota, announced that it is disappointed with the offer policy. He also added that the boutique Dana Hotel & Spa has become a popular place in Chicago not only for tourists but also for locals.
