10 worst landlords in new York

Last week the group for the protection of housing rights of Stabilizing NYC has published a list of the ten worst landlords, allowing various violations of the rights of tenants. The group Stabilizing NYC — a coalition of 15 organizations, representing the interests of residents of different areas of the city, which was established in 2014 publishes lists for the «fight against harassment of tenants and preserve affordable housing for new Yorkers who need it most».

The analysis is performed on the basis of five criteria, including evidence of harassment of tenants and high turnover of housing, which leads to the loss of rental units. Company listed, by and large, engaged in buying apartment buildings, apartments which are already rented, and then simply displace tenants from their homes, raise rent and renting to other tenants more attractive to the landlord or rebuild price purchased at a reasonable price the room bringing in more income. Such companies use a wide range of very unfair practices in relation to eviction of tenants, many of whom may even be unknown.

However, in all cases, tenants are forced to fight for housing, suffering horrible and often dangerous for the health of the environment.

Number 1 in the list is All Year Management, led by Joela Goldman. Also in the «naming and shaming» list included such prominent landlords as Icon Realty Management, Madison Realty Capital/Silverstone Property Group and Steve Croman.Among the less known names — Coney Realty Group, David David, INK Property Group, R. A. Cohen & Associates and ZARA Realty Holding Corp. Ved Parkash.

Keriann Pauls, attorney in the project development community in the Center of urban development, said in a press release: «We will pursue and monitor these landlords to help tenants to fight off they use predatory practices, which threaten housing».

«Landlords who act in bad faith, forcing the tenants to make a profit and the vacant buildings should be borne in mind: we are developing tools that will protect tenants and their homes, and will also compel landlords to fill their pockets through illegal actions,» said city Council member Ritchie Torres.
