In new York, the landlord evicted the tenants for the repair and threw their belongings in the trash

The tenants of Chinatown (Manhattan), which in the beginning of 2018 at the time of repair in the building were evicted from their apartments, said that the landlord threw their belongings in garbage cans.

Residents of houses 83 and 85 Bowery spent the day pulling out of black garbage bags of medicines, clothing, books, mixed with the dregs. «People had to check each bag to find their things, but in the end almost all of them were already damaged,» said the advocacy group Youth Against Displacement in Facebook, uploading photos of items in the dumpsters.

The landlord is Joseph Bates ordered the tenants to leave the apartment on 18 January, as the building needed repair. It was assumed that the relocation will not last more than a couple of weeks, but in the end it lasted for months. Someone was staying with relatives, who all this time living in a hotel. Several times residents staged a protest, even a hunger strike.

As stated in the email the representative Joseph Betesh, were thrown only to «perishable» items left in the apartments by the tenants of such products.

Many tenants complain Betesh also in connection with his intention to raise the rent.
