Penn Station will be expanded

Finally the renovations and expansion of Penn Station began. Last week opened the new lobby of the West End Concourse and the entrance on Eighth Avenue. But this is only the tip of the iceberg. Now it is planned to expand the Farley Buildingto house a new hall.

On Friday Governor Andrew Cuomo announced that Amtrak, the MTA, the Port Authority and other organizations interested in funding transactions of 1.6 billion dollars. Thanks to her, it will build a new lobby the Moynihan Train Hall 255 000 sq ft and also will be used toward building of 700,000 square feet for retail premises.

In Moynihan Train Hall will be a passenger room and ticket office with tickets Amtrak and Long Island Rail Road. The design of the new hall is highly unusual for Penn Station, reports Time Out. But the glass ceiling with arches and columns at the entrance to the Farley Building decided to keep.

Last renovated in Penn Station was in the 60-ies. I believe that the conversion of the Farley Building will be completed in 2020. Of course, this project will not solve all the problems of Penn Station, but this is an important step in the right direction.
