Coronavirus Nurse Served with Eviction Notice

Claudia Mojica is a Nurse Assistant at Kaiser Permanente in Riverside , California , caring for patients who test positive for COVID-19.

The other day the landlord handed her an eviction notice , although she lived in this house for 11 years and did not delay the payment.

“When he handed me the eviction notice, it just … stunned me,” the woman told ABC7.

She was surprised because the Rialto city decree temporarily forbids evictions for non-payment of rent , but Claudia did not even delay payment.

In addition, according to the nurse, it is extremely difficult to find new housing, given her work in the hospital and the requirements of physical distancing.

“If you are evicted, how will you move? How do you hire a truck and movers with all the social distancing rules? — said the member of the city council of Los Angeles Mike Bonin. «Basically, if you get an eviction notice now, it means you are being put out on the street.»

According to Bonin, eviction rules in a pandemic differ from city to city in California, and this is «fucking confusing for tenants.»

The Los Angeles eviction moratorium will end when the local emergency ends, but the economy is unlikely to recover to the point where tenants can pay off debt quickly.

The California Judicial Council will not accept evictions for 90 days after the pandemic ends, Bonin said.

“The easiest way to end this mess is to tell homeowners you won't even be able to serve a notice until the end of the pandemic,” stressed Mike Bonin.
