A Devon (UK) resident was amazed to discover a secret cave under his home. The underground space has probably been «sealed» for at least 50 years.
Jake Brown was self-isolating and working on a Georgian property he recently bought in Plymouth when he noticed a stain on one of the walls that had a different texture from the rest of the surface. Curious, he took a drill and started making small holes. When Jake made a hole through which his head could crawl, he was amazed to find a huge area under the house.
“It was like a cave or a grotto. I made a torch and climbed inside. The stone vaulted ceiling was in excellent condition. The cave is about 3 meters high and 3 meters wide, ”the man said.
In a strange place, the homeowner found piles of construction debris and began digging through it to find some clues about what he had stumbled upon.
“The biggest discovery was the newspaper, it just crumbled at the touch, so I carefully placed it in the warm bathroom, as they do with such evidence in crime series,” continued Jake.
As a result, on one of the scraps of the newspaper, he found the date — 1964 , which meant: the cave was closed for more than 50 years.
Jake Brown decided to contact a historian named Richard Fisher and told him about the find.
“Houses in that era were built with large basements, for example, coal ones,” Fischer said. “Years later, the owners of the houses turned cellars into wine cellars, into places for growing mushrooms, even into a kind of bathing grotto”.
