In Atlanta announced the first warning on tropical storm in the history of the city. The warning was made on Sunday. The city closed schools, under the threat of closing one of the busiest airports in the country.
Mayor Kasim reed urged residents to prepare for the worst.
«Don’t be fooled into thinking that this hurricane can’t hurt you. Don’t go out and don’t play with the storm,» he said. «We urge everyone to remain indoors and ensure their safety at the time, as we try to cope with this difficult situation.»
Several school districts, Georgia State University in Atlanta and University of Georgia in Athens has announced that Monday classes will not.
Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport opened on Sunday. Airport spokesman Andrew Gobeil said Friday that officials are in close contact with government services and will monitor the progress of hurricane Irma. Decisions will be made in accordance with the situation.
The Governor of Georgia Nathan deal announced the state of emergency.
On the shelves in Atlanta is already out of bottled water and bread. Provisions were sold out literally overnight on Sunday.
