25% of homes in the Florida Keys destroyed by hurricane Irma

Preliminary estimates suggest hurricane Irma destroyed almost a quarter of homes in the Florida Keys. Another 65% of homes suffered serious damage.

«Basically, every house in the Florida Keys was in some way affected,» — said the head of the Federal emergency management Agency Brock long.

In total, the hurricane killed 40 people, 5 of them from the United States. More than 6 million people in Florida without power.

«This is the biggest mobilization of workers to restore power lines in this country in history», — told reporters on Monday, the President’s adviser on security issues That Basset.

Hurricane Irma, reached a category 5, was the longest by a hurricane in the last 50 years. Usually hurricanes of such force not raging for more than three days.

The government of France has estimated the damage caused by the hurricane, 1.5 billion. And that’s just in St. Barts and French St. Martin. Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda Gaston brown and even called the country «barely habitable» after the storm.

Now Irma has weakened, forecasters say. But even the weaker does not make it less dangerous. «Under the gun» bad weather remain the coastal areas of Georgia, some areas in North and South Carolina, and Alabama.
