In mid-September in Berkeley, California, there was a case that received a wide resonance in the social networks.
Then during a baseball match police seized a purse from a seller of hot dogs. As explained to militiamen, the man had a license to trade, and in this case they have the right to take the money as evidence. But many witnesses were outraged by this – the people felt that the police should focus on more important things than «hunting» for people trying to feed their families.
A local resident and a graduate of UC Berkeley, Martin Flores, filmed the incident on video and posted it on the social network. In addition, he decided to collect donations for the seller – Beto Mathias – GoFundMe.com.
Obviously, the history of the seller many not indifferent, because in little more than two weeks, he gathered… almost 88 thousand dollars!
After taxes, Mathias, father of two, will be about 60 thousand dollars to fulfill a dream, to buy a van licensed for sale street food.
«He’s very humble and so grateful to everyone,» he told the Daily News Martin Flores about Beto. «He appreciates that people from across the country expressed support, sympathy and compassion.»
Flores added that the majority of people donated small amounts ($20 or less), but these people had accumulated very much.
«People wanted to tell him that they care. That was good!».
