De Blasio was not invited to the parade on Columbus Day

This year, the new York mayor, bill de Blasio won’t participate in Sunday’s parade, timed to coincide with the Columbus Day in the Bronx. And the reason for this is not serious business and very busy with the mayor. De Blasio is simply not invited by the organizers, because they unleashed a heated debate on what to do with statues of Christopher Columbus, owned by the city.

De Blasio proposed to create a special Committee, which after conducting thorough research, the verdict each of the statues in the city. Monuments, the test will disappear from city streets or will be changed, others will remain in their places.

The organizers of the parade for Columbus Day in Morris Park compare with the mayor Pontius Pilate, that he just «washed his hands», and shifted the responsibility on to other shoulders.

The last time de Blasio appeared on parade in the Bronx in 2015, he also participated in the March in 2012 and 2013, when he was public advocate.

The leaders of the Italian-American community is concerned about the possibility that the Columbus statue will fall out of favor with officials, though the mayor says that there is no danger.

Columbus on his own holiday, as the man who discovered America. Americans of Italian origin feel to it especially tender feelings, counting a symbol of progress and cultural pride. But critics blame Columbus for the enslavement of the indigenous inhabitants of the Caribbean Islands.

Legislators in Los Angeles and Portland, Maine, recently voted for the elimination of Columbus Day and renamed the holiday to honor indigenous people and aboriginal people.
