Abandoned withanatori Waverly hills, located on top of the peacefully slumbering hill, Kentucky, was created in the early XX century, during the outbreak of tuberculosis, which at that time was considered an incurable disease.
Not possessing the knowledge necessary to defeat the disease, the makers of Waverly hills based its treatment on quarantine, the fresh air and positive attitude. For the application of such practices that was initially built two open-air pavilion, which contained 40 patients suffering from tuberculosis.

As soon as the disease was spread, it was decided to expand the resort, and what happened to him in 1912, after the construction of a larger building. In Waverly hills were transferred patients from several nearby hospitals. Nearby was erected a separate children’s building, where lived not only young patients but also children whose parents were too ill to keep them.

The resort was connected with the foot of the hill a special tunnel that was used by the workers and which was delivered food. It is obvious that without proper treatment the condition of the people worsened, the patients died almost daily. The number of bodies leaving the building, had a strong influence on the morale of the inhabitants of the sanatorium, which does not fit into treatment program, based on positive energy. Then the administration decided to take the body through a hidden tunnel to the other patients didn’t know about how severe the situation is.

Fortunately, in the 1940-ies there was an effective drug against tuberculosis, and the need for the maintenance of such a large object disappeared. In 1961 the sanatorium finally closed as a medical facility.
Several times empty the building was bought by a private company, hoping to turn him into a nursing home or luxury housing, but these plans never came to life. The current owners sanatorium Waverly hills use the abandoned space as a «haunted house», spending night tours and special events.
So no matter how positive the atmosphere was maintained in the sanatorium, its ruins still remain a pretty terrible place.
