New York city – the most unsafe in the U.S.

According to a recently published study conducted by the nonprofit organization the Leapfrog Group, a new York hospital are among the worst in the countrywhen it comes to medical errors, injuries and infections. The hospital new Jersey is among the safest medical institutions in the USA.

Under the scrutiny of experts was 2,630 hospitals in all 50 States, which the researchers assigned a rating based on the quality and quantity of safety measures patients. After the rating, where States were distributed from best to worst, depending on how many hospitals marked with the grade «A» is there.

The state of new York took 47th place (remember, 50), entering in the five States with the smallest number of hospitals-a student. Of 142 medical institutions, only 7 received the highest rating of safety. In addition, none of these 7 hospitals not located in the city of new York, and closer to all the Big Apple is a hospital in long island.

The safest in new York recognized:

  • Kenmore Mercy Hospital in Kenmore;
  • Sisters of Charity Hospital in Buffalo;
  • Highland Hospital of Rochester in Rochester;
  • John T. Mather Memorial Hospital in Port Jefferson;
  • Oneida Healthcare Center in Oneida;
  • Rochester General Hospital in Rochester and
  • Saratoga Hospital in Saratoga springs.

Three hospitals, two in Brooklyn and one in Staten island, received a rating of «F».

The state of new Jersey far away from its stellar neighbor, finishing in 11th place in the ranking. Analysts saw 68 local hospitals, 30 of which received the highest score. At the same time, no hospital in new Jersey was not marked unsatisfactory evaluation.

The rating of the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades are published every two years, which gives the opportunity to more clearly see the shifts in one direction or another. For example, to assess the safety of hospitals in five States: Oregon, Rhode island, Hawaii, Wisconsin, and Idaho have improved significantly compared to the first ranking, published in 2012. Radically altered the situation in Rhode island, which moved from 50th place in 2012 to first place in the fall of 2017.

Throughout the list a failing grade of»F» received 15 hospitals, located in California, Washington, district of Columbia, Florida, Illinois, Maryland, Mississippi, new York and Tennessee.

More than 800 hospitals received a rating of «A», with a larger concentration in Rhode island, Maine, Hawaii, Idaho and Virginia. The least safe hospitals in North Dakota, Washington, Delaware, Maryland and new York.

Information about medical errors, infections and injuries was provided by Leapfrog by the center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and the American hospital Association. All the scores assigned by experts on patient safety, estimates that were tested for their colleagues. All data are fully transparent and are freely available.
